Adventures by Disney: Tuscany
Our Adventures by Disney journey through Italy continued into the heart of Tuscany, where rolling vineyards, golden sunsets, and unforgettable culinary experiences awaited us.
We stayed at the charming Hotel Borgo di Cortefreda, a beautiful boutique hotel nestled in the Tuscan countryside near the village of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. The hotel itself is built from a restored 17th-century farmhouse, blending historic Tuscan architecture with modern comfort. Stone walls, terracotta floors, and rustic wood beams give the property its authentic charm, while the peaceful setting offers sweeping views of vineyards and olive groves stretching across the hills.
This small boutique property feels like a true Tuscan retreat. The rooms are quaint and cozy, the on-site restaurant and bar serve delicious regional cuisine, and the pool is the perfect place to relax while soaking in the breathtaking countryside views. For families traveling with children, it’s an ideal balance - kids can swim and play while parents unwind with a glass of wine overlooking the landscape Tuscany is famous for.
We kicked off our stay with a lovely welcome reception featuring cocktails and traditional Tuscan appetizers. As the sun began to set, the sky lit up over the rolling hills - one of those magical travel moments you simply have to experience in person.
Dinner that evening was a celebration of Tuscan cuisine with local meats, cheeses, handmade pasta, and traditional regional dishes. During the evening we also enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting presented by a local winery, accompanied by a live performance from an Italian folk band. The music created a festive and truly authentic atmosphere - the perfect welcome to Tuscany.
An Unforgettable Visit to Fattoria Poggio Alloro
But the highlight of our time in Tuscany was an unforgettable visit to Fattoria Poggio Alloro, a family-run farm located just outside the medieval town of San Gimignano. This incredible property has been operated by the same family for three generations, and one of the owners, Sara, personally welcomed us and shared the history of the farm.
Our experience began with a hands-on pasta making class, where we learned to prepare traditional Italian pasta from scratch using time-honored techniques. We were even given the recipes so we could recreate the dishes at home - and each of us received a certificate celebrating our new pasta-making skills!
Pasta Making, Farm Tours, and Wine Tasting
Afterward, we toured the farm itself, which was just as fascinating as the cooking class. The property includes olive groves, vegetable gardens, vineyards, and even cattle. Nearly everything served at the farm is grown or produced right there, making the experience feel incredibly authentic and connected to the land.
We ended the visit with a beautiful lunch featuring the pasta we had made, along with a wine tasting of wines produced right on the farm. The views of nearby San Gimignano, with its famous medieval towers rising above the hills, were absolutely breathtaking.
A Special Experience for Younger Travelers
Adventures by Disney also created a special experience for the younger travelers. While the adults enjoyed the wine tasting, the children participated in their own olive oil tasting and even created a custom olive oil blend to take home as a souvenir - such a thoughtful and fun activity.
