If you're dreaming about your next cruise adventure, Norwegian Cruise Line’s brand-new ship, Norwegian Aqua, deserves a spot at the top of your list! I recently had the opportunity to step aboard for an exclusive two-day preview while the ship was docked in New York City. Although I didn’t set sail this time, I explored every corner — from the staterooms to the thrilling attractions — and I'm excited to share my first impressions with you. Whether you’re a family, a couple, or an adventure seeker, Norwegian Aqua offers a fresh, modern take on cruising that’s truly impressive. First Impressions & Design Aesthetic

My very first thought when I stepped on board was, simply, wow—this ship is gorgeous.

The color scheme felt so fresh and calming, filled with neutrals like soft tans, creams, and whites, creating a very inviting atmosphere. We boarded on Deck 6, and although nothing immediately caught my eye when stepping aboard, the Atrium space quickly became one of my favorite spots to enjoy. It’s open, bright, and just absolutely beautiful.

The overall vibe of Norwegian Aqua is definitely modern—it feels sleek, yet welcoming, perfect for travelers looking for a stylish and contemporary cruising experience.

One thing is for sure: Norwegian Aqua is packed with exciting attractions! During my time onboard, I was able to explore almost everything, including:

Aqua Slidecoaster (the world’s first hybrid waterslide/rollercoaster at sea!)
Glow Court (an incredible digital sports complex)

While I didn’t ride the Aqua Slidecoaster myself (it was extremely cold in New York those days, and hypothermia wasn’t on my to-do list!), I watched a few brave guests try it—and it looked like so much fun!

I was also blown away by how much I loved Revolution: A Celebration of Prince show onboard. I didn’t expect to be the target audience for a Prince show, but halfway through, I found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat, loving every second.

If I could go back and have more time, I would have loved to dive even deeper into the dining experiences onboard – and try out the Aqua Slidecoaster for myself. There’s truly so much to discover.

Dining Venues and Lounges

Foodies, get excited—Norwegian Aqua’s dining scene is incredible.

During my visit, I was able to experience:

Indulge Food Hall (quick bites from all over the world)
Surfside Café & Grill (buffet)
The Local Bar & Grill (casual dining)
Hudson’s (main dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows)

Thanks to some dietary restrictions (I’m gluten-free), finding safe options can sometimes be a challenge—but not on Norwegian Aqua. The staff was amazing. At Indulge Food Hall, I snacked on guacamole that was out of this world. At the buffet, the chef even prepared me a fresh salad to avoid cross-contamination. And to top it off, I devoured a delicious flourless chocolate cake that a server kindly brought over just for me!

Hudson’s especially stood out—the space is not only beautiful but offers an unforgettable dining experience with panoramic ocean views.

Stateroom Sneak Peek

I stayed in a Balcony (BA) Stateroom 12786, located midship on Deck 12, and I was so impressed with how spacious and bright it felt.

The décor featured soft neutrals with a pop of blue from the throw pillows. There was a ton of storage space (three closets!), a cozy seating area, a desk, and a very large bathroom. These staterooms are perfect for two people, and since mine connected to the room next door, it’s a great option for larger families traveling together too.

One clever touch: built-in hooks on the wall for hanging bags, jackets, or swim gear—a small detail that makes a big difference!

What Makes Norwegian Aqua Different

While I’ve sailed on Disney Cruise Line before and toured Royal Caribbean ships, this was my very first experience onboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship—and Norwegian Aqua truly stands out.

Compared to other ships, Norwegian Aqua feels bright, airy, and grown-up, without being stuffy. There’s a wonderful balance between lively spaces for families and peaceful spots for adults.

The Aqua Slidecoaster, outdoor game areas, and indoor arcade really set this ship apart, offering family fun without sacrificing style. And while you definitely know you’re on a ship, the open design makes it feel far less closed-in than many cruise ships can sometimes feel.

Who Should Sail on Norwegian Aqua

One of my biggest takeaways? This ship is perfect for just about everyone.

Families with older kids will love the action-packed attractions.
Couples and solo travelers will appreciate the grown-up, stylish vibe.
Multi-generational groups will find plenty of spaces to gather—or sneak away for some solo relaxation.

While there’s a lot for kids to enjoy, I would say that Aqua is especially suited for families with school-aged children and teens, rather than toddlers.

Final Thoughts & Travel Advisor Tips

My absolute favorite part of my time onboard was watching Revolution: A Celebration of Prince —it completely surprised me in the best way possible!
